  3. Network Security Guard, is an AppleTalk based utility that will scan
  4. multiple zones for the presence of Macintosh servers and compile reports 
  5. on the security of those servers. This utility was designed as a tool to
  6. combat the alarming rise in software piracy and as a safeguard against
  7. accidental sharing of confidential materials or access by a malicious
  8. user. It may also be used to explore an AppleTalk network to uncover 
  9. all available servers and files.

  11. Version 3.1 Release Notes:
  12. ------------------------
  13. o Adds significant improvements to the password crack option with user
  14.    defined dictionaries (external files) of usernames, passwords or both. 
  15. o Improved password cracking. Exploits an access method by which 
  16.    some Macs can have their ownername determined. This information
  17.    can be incorporated in password crack attempts. 
  18. o Added AppleScript support for most basic functions.

  20. The reports provided by Network Security Guard include the following data:
  21.   - a report on successful username and/or passwords on each Mac
  22.     - computers which have file sharing enabled
  23.     - servers which allow guest access
  24.     - a list of files accessible to guests
  25.     - a report, alerting you to suspicious configurations on the network
  26.     - a list of servers with easily guessed passwords

  28. Other features include:
  29.     - the ability to schedule your checks to minimize network load
  30.     - a weekly check feature to keep tabs of a network
  31.     - an e-mail interface so reports can be e-mailed to a user
  32.     - the ability to search for specific file names  on the network 
  33.     - Online help

Network Security Guard is available in an unlimited zone and server version for $289. If ordering via e-mail with a credit card, then the discounted price is $260. Educational sites receive a 10% discount.  Upgrades from version 3.0 are free if downloaded online. Previous versions (before 3.0) are $30 if ordered and delivered online or $50 otherwise.
